Ontario Investing $30,000 to host 2026 World Table Tennis Canada Youth Contender in Mississauga

April 10, 2026

Community event will boost Mississauga’s economy and support Ontario’s athletes

Mississauga – Today, Silvia Gualtieri, MPP for Mississauga East-Cooksville, announced that the Ontario government is providing $30,000 to My Table Tennis Club Mississauga to host 2026 World Table Tennis Canada Youth Contender in Mississauga East-Cooksville from May 15 to 18, 2026.

“Mississauga continues to be a place where opportunity, talent, and community come together. Supporting events like the 2026 World Table Tennis Canada Youth Contender at My Table Tennis Club means giving young athletes a platform to grow, compete, and shine on an international stage,” said MPP Gualtieri. “It’s also a meaningful boost for our local businesses and community spirit, and I am proud to see our government backing initiatives that create lasting impact right here in Mississauga East–Cooksville.”

This investment is one more way the government is delivering on its plan to protect Ontario by boosting tourism, creating jobs and strengthening local economies across the province.

Funding is provided through Intake I of the 2026-27 Ontario Sport Hosting Program and is part of over $1.3 million that the Ministry of Sport is investing to support 16 national and 10 international amateur sport events in communities across the province. These events will welcome nearly 10,000 athletes from across Canada and around the world to Ontario and are expected to generate over $28 million in economic activity.

Sport tourism is a powerful economic driver for our province, and an important part of our government’s plan to protect Ontario’s economy,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport. “Our Sport Hosting Program helps communities unlock the benefits of hosting major events and gives our athletes the opportunity to compete here at home, while reinforcing Ontario’s reputation as a premier destination for world-class events.”

The Ontario Sport Hosting Program helps bring national and international amateur sport events to the province by providing funding to organizations to host them. These events encourage investment in local sport infrastructure, help boost local economies and increase tourism. They also provide an opportunity for athletes to train and develop their skills right here at home.
